about

About this track:

An open letter to an old flame, 'I Wanted to be Honest' explores the waves of a broken relationship in the language of letting go, as a healing tool in order to move forward.

Bluesy grooves and the country-rock twang of the guitars combined with raw and honest vocals perfectly set the scene for the story, making it my most vulnerable track yet.

Produced by Iggy Torres (Sun Traitors) who also worked on Nazz's previous track, 'Hot Sun of Arizona,' the song is the result of a seamless isolated collaboration recorded during the Melbourne lockdown. The track also features psych-folk-blues singer/songwriter Dom Brinkley who adds his flair through a charismatic guitar solo.

lyrics

Song lyrics:

I wanted to be honest, wanted to seem strong
I wanted you to show me that I was being wrong
I wanted you to be my sunshine, be my grace
But you made me realise that the world's a dirty place

And I ask myself what did you want
I wish I knew but I never did
I never figured you, that well you hid
Yes, I never figured you, that's what I did

You had too many secrets, more secrets than I thought
You used me quicker than I could say the words
Though it felt like there was something, something to be said
You brought it to an end without having to pretend

And I ask myself what did you want
I thought I knew but I never did
I never figured you, I didn't lie
But I wanted to be honest, so I never tried

You'd rather show your flesh than show your soul
You're only 21 but you're so old
You'd rather bare your flesh and bare your bones
That's fine, who cares about your soul
That's fine, who cares about your soul
That's fine, who cares about

And I ask myself what did you want
I thought I knew but I never did
I never figured you, I didn't lie
But I wanted to be honest, so I never tried
